SBS modified asphalt uses base asphalt as raw material, adds a certain proportion of SBS modifier, and uses shearing, stirring and other methods to evenly disperse SBS in the asphalt. At the same time, a certain proportion of exclusive stabilizer is added to form an SBS blend. material, using the good physical properties of SBS to modify asphalt.
The use of modifiers to modify asphalt has a long history internationally. In the mid-19th century, the vulcanization method was used to reduce the penetration of asphalt and increase the softening point. The development of modified asphalt in the past 50 years has roughly gone through four stages.

(1) 1950-1960, directly mix rubber powder or latex into asphalt, mix evenly and use;
(2) From 1960 to 1970, styrene-butadiene synthetic rubber was blended and used on-site in the form of latex in proportion;
(3) From 1971 to 1988, in addition to the continued application of synthetic rubber, thermoplastic resins were widely used;
(4) Since 1988, SBS has gradually become the leading modified material.
A brief history of the development of SBS modified asphalt:
★The world's industrialized production of SBS products began in the 1960s.
★In 1963, the American Philips Petroleum Company used the coupling method to produce linear SBS copolymer for the first time, with the trade name Solprene.
★In 1965, the American Shell Company used negative ion polymerization technology and a three-step sequential feeding method to develop a similar product and achieve industrial production, with the trade name Kraton D.
★In 1967, the Dutch company Philips developed a star (or radial) SBS product.
★In 1973, Philips launched the star SBS product.
★In 1980, Firestone Company launched an SBS product named Streon. The product's styrene binding content was 43%. The product had a high melt index and was mainly used for plastic modification and hot melt adhesives. Subsequently, Japan's Asahi Kasei Company, Italy's Anic Company, Belgium's Petrochim Company, etc. also successively developed SBS products.
★After entering the 1990s, with the continuous expansion of SBS application fields, the world's SBS production has developed rapidly.
★Since 1990, when the synthetic rubber plant of Baling Petrochemical Company in Yueyang, Hunan Province built the country's first SBS production device with an annual output of 10,000 tons using the technology of Beijing Yanshan Petrochemical Company Research Institute, China's SBS production capacity has grown steadily.
